Who are we?

In June 2003 the parent company of Blackwoods NZ, Wesfarmers Industrial and Safety NZ Ltd (WISNZ) purchased Paykels Engineering Supplies with a view to adding extra distribution capability, product range expansion and technical expertise to the existing Blackwoods distribution network in New Zealand. Blackwoods Paykels offers customers unparalleled experience in industrial and engineering supply. This is a result of the extensive history that both Blackwoods and Paykels have had in their own right within this field.


Paykel Engineering Supplies was acquired in July 2003 by Wesfarmers Industrial & Safety NZ Ltd. As of 1st July 2004 Paykels merged with Blackwoods to form New Zealand’s leading and largest distributor of MRO products, Blackwoods Paykels. Both businesses have histories spanning over a hundred years in New Zealand. Blackwoods Paykels combines an excellent mix of general industrial consumable sales with the supply of specialist sales and service expertise.

With further investment in the business and the synergies gained from being a member of the wider Wesfarmers Industrial & Safety group (New Zealand and Australia), the combined business will continue to grow and strengthen it’s position in the specialist areas listed above, complementing the widest MRO product offering in Australasia.

Blackwoods Paykels now has over 20 branches nationwide as well as separate Conveyor and Hose manufacturing sites and a Distribution Centre in Auckland. The recent purchase of GTM Supplies in the lower South Island has meant we have expanded our offering in Queenstown and Invercargill.

With over 200 staff there is no shortage of great people to work along side of. We have roles in traditional areas such as Sales, Customer Service, Branch Management but we also have a lot of specialist opportunities in our areas of technical expertise. Couple this with our support of Jono Lester and his Porsche, we think we have plenty to attract prospective employees!

I originally started with Paykels in Albany about 10 years ago doing Internal Sales. Internal Sales was a fun job where my daily routine was to have a mince & cheese pie from the neighbouring Chinese bakery. Nice pies however I must have put on about 5kg’s. The rest of the day included learning about a huge range of Industrial Engineering Supplies & making recommendations based on this knowledge.
 
Next was a stint in our Inventory/Purchasing Team where I was responsible for the procuring of a variety of Flow Control (fundamentally Valves, Hose & Fittings) products from all over the world.
 
I moved on to Warehouse Manager, while studying & gaining a Diploma in Logistics. Those that work in Warehouses or Distribution know that it’s long hours & hard work but quite rewarding. I still get a buzz from watching product fly out the door.
 
Along came Blackwoods Paykels & another brief stint in Inventory before moving on to  Merchandising/Marketing.
 
My experiences in the various parts of our business has put me in great stead for my current role as Category Manager. A Category Manager’s role includes the sourcing, positioning, placement of a huge range of products through out Industry. The scope of the role can be rather broad & hectic but this is part of the attraction. I operate in a small, close-knit & hard working Marketing Team who are dedicated to achieve company goals.
 
Outside of work I’m married with one child. Liam! I enjoy most sports & keep myself pretty fit. I play badminton, touch & run regularly, or did until a snapped an Achilles Tendon (goes off like a shotgun & feels like a freight train).
